What do you do when your prospect gives you objections or straight out rejects you with a stern NO? Do you freeze up? Or do you get upset? Rejection is a part of business, particularly with this industry.
So in this post and video, we go over how to become bulletproof in your Network Marketing business.
No matter if you have a small business, consulting or a coaching business, etc., you have to become “bulletproof”.
You will encounter rejections as you go out there promoting yourself, your products or services, or your company and you have to be prepared for this.
What will happen is, if you’re not prepared when you experience rejection, it can throw you off track which can cause you to lose your confidence, or even worse, quit altogether.
Rejection comes in many different forms. You may have a prospect that doesn’t return your calls or text messages.
Or you may get prospects that say things like “Why are you involved in one of these things. Isn’t this a pyramid scheme”?
Or maybe some backhanded remark like, “Oh, they got you into one of those”?
Whatever form of rejection you’ll encounter, an effective strategy to become bulletproof, is to arm yourself by having a solid understanding of what it is you’re actually doing.

Tip #1: Build Belief in the Industry.
Subconsciously, if you don’t really believe that Network Marketing is a viable business, or something that you can actually do, chances are you won’t build it. Most likely you’ll quit. Some ways to build this belief are to learn the industry and to study leaders.
Learn about the industry.
Read everything you can get your hands on about Network Marketing. Particularly books on prospecting and how to handle objections.
This is a skill that takes a lot of practice but once you can learn to identify the root cause of your prospect’s objections (normally comes down to fear), handling them will become much easier and could even become fun!
Yes, you heard right. Many MLM veterans become so good at identifying and neutralizing objections that they make a game out of it and like to be challenged with objections they’ve never encountered before.
Study the leaders in the industry.
This is another big point in developing your belief. We would encourage you to study the leaders that are just like you.
If you’re a single mom, study a leader that is a single mom who found success. If you went through bankruptcy, study a leader that went through bankruptcy and was able to bounce herself back through Network Marketing.
Maybe you failed in another business. If that happened to you, study a leader that has failed multiple times before finally seeing success. The point being, it’s all about relatability.
Who do you relate to? Their story is going to feed your understanding and your belief of what you’re involved in.
Tip #2: Understand the Network Marketing Business Model.
It’s important to understand how the Network Marketing Model compares to other traditional business models.
When approaching business owners to present your opportunity, you have to be able to show them why Network Marketing is a better option for them.
Tip #3: Know Your Why.
This is key. You need to understand what really drives you and why you’re doing this. If your why is strong enough, it really won’t matter what people think of you, or the misinterpretation of what you’re doing, it simply won’t matter.
When you know your why and it’s strong enough, your why will carry much more weight compared to any negativity that may come your way.
Let’s break it down in this way. Any rejection that you’re receiving from a prospect really boils down to two things.
- Misunderstanding: Your prospects just don’t understand what you’re doing. Some may think they do, but the majority of people just don’t understand Network Marketing. For example, when a person uses the Pyramid Scheme objection, I’ll bet you a dollar they don’t even know what a true pyramid scheme is and couldn’t explain it to you correctly if you asked them.
- Your prospect is not looking at this time. You have to find people who are truly looking for your opportunity. If your prospect is not looking now that’s ok. You never know, six months down the road their situation may change and they might be more open to “look” then.
So none of your efforts are really wasted when you’re meeting with people, even if you don’t close with them right away. Think of prospecting as a process.
What’s integral to you surviving rejections, and they will happen, is your belief in understanding what you’re involved in. The reasons of why you’re building has to be stronger than any negativity that will come your way. Plain and simple.
Just keep in mind, your Why, has to be stronger than their doubt or negativity.
Tip #4: Have Compassion.
When you reach this point in your journey, you’ll know you are truly bulletproof when you can actually show compassion from your prospect’s rejection. I know this may sound strange but hear me out.
Let’s say you’re meeting with your prospect and they don’t understand or think it’s a pyramid scheme, etc., when you reach this point, you will no longer get offended, or upset from their rejection.
Instead you may feel sorry or compassionate for that person because they don’t “see” it yet. Maybe down the road they might, but not yet.
But when you feel compassion, it will be much easier for you to forgive. If your friends or family don’t see it, you just forgive them and move on. No big deal.
So to recap, if you follow these tips, not only will you become more bulletproof when handling rejection, you will also grow as a person and more possibilities will open up for you.
You will increase your confidence and become more savvy in your business. Instead of meeting with just anyone, you’ll become more discerning with who you meet with.
And you do have to kind of match yourself with someone who can also understand your language. This will lessen the whole rejection experience.
The more meetings, presentations and experiences you’ll have under your belt, the more you’ll learn and grow from them.
Remember this is a journey and you’re growing as an entrepreneur. When you fall, you get back up, learn from that experience, assess it, and move on.
